Half Moon Bay Branch of AAUW
(American Association of University Women)
AAUW was founded in 1881, more than 140 years ago, to open doors of education to women and to unite alumnae of different institutions for “practical” educational work.
The Half Moon Bay Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) celebrates fifty five years (1967-2022) of championing the mission of advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.
Our members, 125+ strong, worked in various fields and industries bringing a wealth of experience to educate, encourage, motivate and empower young women and girls from elementary, middle and high schools in all our Coastside cities and rural communities.
Our branch offers programs such as Tech Trek, Speech Trek, Days for Girls, College Scholarships and a College Mentor Program. These are funded through our various fund-raising initiatives. Alongside the students, AAUW members act as mentors and role models as the young women and girls participate in camps, prepare for debates, or attend workshops.
In addition to student initiatives, the HMB branch, along with California state and AAUW National, hosts ongoing Speaker Education Webinars for its members. The branch holds monthly meetings, usually the third Monday, with a speaker(s) on a topic related to the mission of AAUW. In addition to our monthly general meetings, there are several interest groups within the branch where members have a chance to meet and keep up with each other socially.
We partner with other local organizations as well as the Half Moon Bay library to support education programs. Our members are active in promoting social justice and equity and in rallying for change.
