Enrichment Programs

Here are our education initiatives

Local Scholarships

Three or four scholarships are offered each year for young women who graduated from Half Moon Bay or Pescadero High Schools and are now entering their third or fourth year of college or graduate studies.

Speech Trek

Each February, a topic is presented for debate, chosen by AAUW CA.  Half Moon Bay high school students are eligible to enter.  Our members help with their presentations. A winner is chosen locally who then participates in a statewide competition.

Tech Trek

Five seventh graders from Cunha Intermediate School are chosen for a week-long STEM camp held at a University during the summer. The girls are nominated by their science and math teachers.

College Mentor Program

This branch project supports Local Scholarship recipients for a school year. AAUW HMB members who are in their same field of study mentor the students and generalists provide guidance for other concerns.

AAUW Funds

We also support and provide funding to our national organization to assist in various programs. We pool our funds to provide Community and Research Grants, aiding scholars in completing their education. For more information on AAUW Funds click here or go to www.aauw.org.

Other Enrichment Initiatives

Days for Girls

AAUW members sew reusable menstrual kits to distribute to refugee girls around the world. These kits help girls stay in school.

AAUW’s mission is: To advance gender equality for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy.
