“Afternoon Tea at the Library”
The annual membership luncheon will feature a tea held in the Community Room of the Half Moon Bay Library on Saturday, September 28th, beginning at 2pm. The program includes presentations from:
- Our keynote speaker, Jill Jacobson, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of the Coastside
- The 2024 Tech Trekkers will talk about their experiences at Tech Trek camp
- Interest groups and projects will give brief presentations
- Branch business and plans for the 2024-25 year

“Pros and Cons Analysis of the California Ballot Propositions”
Tina Doede, president of the League of Women Voters North and Central San Mateo County, will present the Pros and Cons analysis of the California Ballot Propositions.
The Pros & Cons is a nonpartisan explanation of state propositions, with supporting and opposing arguments. The arguments come from many sources and are not limited to those presented in the Official Voter Information Guide.

“Will the Court Come to Order”
Boston University School of Law graduate and attorney, Barbara Creed is a popular speaker who can distill the essence of cases to a lay audience. Barbara will address some interesting developments on the Supreme Court, review the significant decisions of the term that ended in July and preview some of the important cases the Court will decide in its term that began on October 7. This will be an intellectually stimulating evening, especially for the civic minded.

“Scholarship and Mentor Programs”
At the February general meeting, Michelle Hernandez, one of this year’s scholarship recipients, will share stories about her January intern experience with Fundación Astra, a medical clinic in Baja California, Mexico. Michelle’s goal is to become a pediatrician serving the Latino community. Her recent intern experience with a clinic serving the disadvantaged was made possible through the efforts of one of her AAUW mentors, Wendy Lama, and the generous donations of our branch’s members.
AAUW members involved in the scholarship and mentor programs will also provide more information about both programs.

“Women’s History Month”
On Monday, March 24th, our branch will present a program on the first ever National Suffrage Parade and first ever Civil Rights march. The presentation will focus on 5 incredible women – Hazel MacKaye, Mary Church Terrell, Rose Schneiderman, Harriett Stanton Blatch, and Mary Louise Bottineau Baldwin – who were involved in this historic event. It will showcase their many diverse talents and resilient support for a national amendment, giving women the right to vote. Their lives serve as inspiration and as examples to emulate.
